How big does it get?
The giant of the group, 60 to 75 centimetres. It needs a very large floor area, not a standard tank.
Does it bite?
Rarely, but the jaws are strong and it whips with the spiny tail when it feels cornered.
What does it eat?
Greens, vegetables and seeds. A big adult eats a genuinely large amount of salad every day.
How long does it live?
Decades, often 20 to 30 years. It may well outlast the enclosure you buy today.
